Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)

The term 'Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) ' as it applies to the area of agriculture can be defined as ' FWS, in the Department of the Interior, is the federal agency charged with managing and protecting the nation’s wild plants and animals, including endangered and threatened species. It generally works closely with state agencies, which have management primacy for most species. (The federal government has assumed responsibility for marine mammals, migratory birds, and endangered and threatened species). It manages the National Wildlife Refuge System, and cooperates with private landowners in habitat conservation'.
